Students may choose a payment
option from those listed below:
1. Semester Payment Plan (All
students)
Students may pay total charges for the
semester (tuition, fees, room and board), less any deposits, financial
aid or other credits in a lump sum payment. The lump sum
payment for the semester is due the First Day of Classes.
2. IIT Three Month Plan (Part-time students
only)
Visit the IIT Three Month Plan page here.
3. IIT Four Month Plan (Spring Term
only)
Visit the IIT Four Month Plan page here.
4. IIT Nine Month Plan (Full-time students
only)
Visit the IIT Nine Month Plan page here.
5. IIT Twelve Month Plan (Full-time students
only)
Visit the IIT Twelve Month Plan page here.
6. Budget Plan
(All students)
Students who do not select a payment plan by the second week of classes will automatically be enrolled in the budget plan each term. Under the budget plan students will be required to make tuition payments on a monthly basis and will be charged a late fee penalty on any unpaid balance the last business day each month. A $40.00 budget plan fee is charged to each student enrolled in the plan. Students placed in the budget plan will have a hold placed on their account until the balance is paid in full or the student agrees to a specific IIT Payment plan.
7. Tuition Deferment Plan (Part-time
students only)
The Tuition Deferment Plan is available to students whose employers offer tuition reimbursement. The plan permits students to delay payment of the employer’s percentage of the current semester tuition cost until 45 days from the end of the semester. Students are required to pay their portion of tuition cost not covered by employer by the start of the term. The plan requires the following:
1. Payment of a $55.00 deferred payment fee at
the time of application.
2. A letter from your employer stating the terms
of the tuition reimbursement policy and approximate time frame in
which your employer will make payment (no later than 45 days from
the end of the semester). This letter is due by the third week of
the semester.
You may apply for tuition deferment online: Tuition
Deferment Form
A sample employer letter is available online: Sample
Employer Letter
Late Payment Penalties
All students who do not comply with the terms of
their payment plan are subject to late payment penalty fees. Students
on the Budget Plan who fail to meet the required payment due
date will be charged a late payment penalty fee of 1% of their outstanding
balance each month. Students on the IIT Monthly Payment Plan will
be assessed a $25.00 late payment penalty fee for each month their payment
is late.
Tuition Refund Policies
The following policy pertains to all students who
drop a course(s) or completely withdraw from the university:
| Official date
of withdrawal |
Refund amount
|
| During the first
week of classes |
100% |
| During the second
week of classes |
100% |
| After the second
week of classes |
0% |
Refunds of credit balances resulting from financial
aid credits will not be processed until the credit balance is reflected
on the student's account. Students receiving federal and/or state
loans and/or grants should be aware that credit for such aid may not
be available until some time after the fourth week of classes.
Request for refunds of credit balances due to course
drop/withdrawal , overpayment or reasons other than financial aid will
be accepted and processed when the credit balance is reflected on the
student's account.
No tuition will be charged and full refund will
be made on any amounts paid, upon application supported by proof as
necessary, under the following circumstances:
*If a course for which the student is registered
is canceled by the university.
*If a student's serious injury causing incapacity
or death occurs.
Under the exceptional circumstances, such as withdrawal
for involuntary military service, serious illness or action by the university,
consideration may be given for a refund or credit for unused tuition
upon written request to the Bursar.
Outstanding Debts
A financial hold is placed on a student's
record when that student is delinquent in fulfilling his or her financial
obligation to the university. A student will be considered delinquent
when his/her account is not current according to the established due
dates listed in this schedule
Alumni Tuition Benefit (ALUMED)
ALUMED is a program of tuition credit
for graduates of IIT or Midwest College of Engineering (MCE).
Alumni registering as part-time undergraduate
students are permitted to register for one course offered by IIT each
semester at a cost of one-half the current tuition rate. Alumni
registering as part-time graduate students will receive a one third
reduction of the tuition charges for one course.
Alumni registering as full-time students
or as law students in a Chicago-Kent degree program are not eligible.
ALUMED may not be used for enrollment in short courses, special
problems, research, thesis and non-credit courses. Reductions
in tuition may not be applied retroactively.
To receive this benefit, students
must indicate their alumni status on the registration form.
Tuition Remission (Employees)
The tuition remission policy for IIT employees is an employee benefit and information is available on the Department of Human Resources website here.
The University policy applies only to tuition charges. All other charges including but not limited to: room, board, student activity fee, service fee, U-Pass fee, and health insurance fee may also be applicable charges and are the responsibility of the employee to either pay or obtain any waiver to meet all payment and waiver deadlines. Please see the section above on Tuition and Fees for charges that may be applicable to you, and which are dependent upon your enrollment status.
