Advising Holds/Requirements
All undergraduate students (and select graduate
programs) have advising requirements. Advising holds are a permanent hold
placed on the students record that needs to be cleared each time the student
wants to make a change to his/her schedule of classes.
Advisers may clear the hold either through
Web for Faculty (click here for specific instructions: Web
for Faculty Tutorial) for their assigned advisees or through the SIS
on screen 104 (click here for specific instructions: SIS
Guide - Useful Screens).
Please remember to clear the hold each time
you talk to your advisee as you give them clearance to change their schedule.
This allows them to access the Web for Students system at their convenience.
Closed Courses
If your advisee would like to register for
a closed course please refer them to the department sponsoring the course
(i.e. HUM 101- Humanities Department).
You may proceed in clearing the advising hold
and refer the student to the proper individual within the department for
the closed course. Click here for a complete list of contacts.
Please do not advise your advisee to obtain
a signature from the instructor because these will not be accepted in
the Registrar's Office for clearance.
The student must contact the designated individual
in the department and receive electronic permission.
Course Registration Controls
If your advisee would like to register for
a class and cannot due to a prerequisite or permission of instructor control
you should also refer the student to the sponsoring department contact.
This person will inform the student if either
they need to receive permission from the instructor or if they will obtain
the permission for them.
Again, Please do not advise your advisee to
obtain a signature from the instructor because these will not be accepted
in the Registrar's Office for clearance.
The student must contact the designated individual
in the department and receive electronic permission.
Please forward any questions regarding Web
for Faculty or Advising procedures to faculty.help@iit.edu.
