Web for Faculty Help
Attention:
When using Internet Explorer to access Web
for Faculty, Students, or Employees, it is strongly recommend setting
it to not remember user names and passwords; as this can provide
an open door to personal information should another person use the same
computer. To set this up, go into Tools -> Internet Options
-> Content -> AutoComplete, then uncheck user
names and passwords on forms. If you are at a public computer you may
not have the security privileges to do this. In this case, recommend to
the system administrator to make these changes.
Are you getting the 'Login Expired' message when you try to logon?
There are several possibilities as to why
this may be happening. Please note that the appropriate time-out is approximately
10 minutes. If you are getting the message after roughly 10 minutes you
will need to log back into your account. Please use the following steps
to help determine the cause of your login difficulty.
Web for Faculty requires a browser that supports 128-bit encryption.

1. Did you use the Back or Forward buttons on your browser?
When you are logged in you can only navigate
using the Web for Faculty links on each page. Using the Back or Forward
buttons will end your session. This was implemented for security reasons.
2. Are you using a proxy server to connect
to the internet?
For security reasons, Web for Faculty builds
a key to identify you and your session. Part of this key consists of your
IP address (IP: A number assigned specifically to your computer. This
serves as the internet address of your computer, and is used to establish
communications with other computers on the Internet). If you are coming
through a proxy server, it is possible that the proxy server will use
multiple IP addresses. If the proxy attempts to get pages using different
IP addresses, Web for Faculty will interpret this as a security violation
and will require you to logon again.
By using Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator
it is possible to use a proxy and set exceptions on when it is used. Internet
Explorer or Netscape will not go through the proxy for these sites listed
as exceptions thus avoiding the problem. In Internet Explorer go to Tools
> Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings > check Use
a Proxy Server and enter the address and port number > Advanced and
put http://webfor.iit.edu under Exceptions. In Netscape, go to Edit >
Preferences > Advanced > Proxies > View (next to Manual Proxy
Configuration) and put http://webfor.iit.edu under Exceptions.
3. Are you using AOL's browser?
America Online's browser is configured to
use HTTP proxies. (See previous explanation).
You can use Netscape or Internet Explorer
with America Online. Otherwise you will need to contact AOL technical
support.
4. Are you using WebTV?
WebTV uses HTTP proxies with their set top
boxes. (See explanation 2).
There is currently no solution available for
WebTV users. The problem lies with the configuration of the WebTV set
top boxes and cannot be resolved by us.
5. Are you behind a firewall?
For security reasons, Web for Faculty builds
a key to identify you and your session. Part of this key consists of your
IP address. If you are coming through a firewall, it is possible that
your internal address will be translated to a different external address
each time you leave your domain. If this happens, Web for Faculty interprets
it as a security breach and requires you to logon again.
See your network administrator to get a static
IP address or to get mapped to a static translation.
6. Other possible issues
To ensure compatibility between Web for Faculty
and your browser please download the latest release of either Internet
