The Office of Financial Aid administers a comprehensive program that includes loans and work-study. The financial aid process begins when a student completes and submits the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for each award year. At IIT, the Office of Financial Aid manages the financial aid process for graduate students, except MBA and Law school students.
All federal programs require students to be in attendance at least halftime (minimum of 4.5 hours) and be admitted to a degree program.

Fellowships, Scholarships, and Assistantships
Fulltime students applying to Professional Master’s
Programs who have exceptionally strong academic records may
be eligible for one of a limited number of one-year, half-tuition
academic scholarships. Fulltime students applying to M.S. and
Ph.D. programs may qualify for fellowships, scholarships, and
assistantships. You will be considered automatically for scholarships,
fellowships, and assistantships at the time the admission decision
is made—as long as you apply by the funding deadline listed on the admission application.
A fellowship provides financial support to defray the cost of tuition and a stipend
for living expenses. A tuition scholarship provides all or part of the tuition only. Both are exempt from federal income taxes. Most degree programs provide financial support for teaching
assistants who help with instruction and research assistants who work on funded research projects. Graduate assistants may receive support in the form of a stipend and/or tuition support.
Continuing students should apply to their major academic unit. Acceptance of an award or appointment for the fall semester is considered binding on the student after April 15. If a student’s academic work is judged to be unsatisfactory, the award may be canceled at the discretion of the university at any time during the period covered.

Alumni Tuition Benefits
ALUMED is a program of tuition credit for graduates of IIT or Midwest College of Engineering (MCE).
Alumni registering as part-time undergraduate students are permitted to register for one course offered by IIT each semester at a cost of one-half the current tuition rate. Alumni registering as part-time graduate students will receive a one third reduction of the tuition charges for one course.
Alumni registering as full-time students or as law students in a Chicago-Kent degree program are not eligible. ALUMED may not be used for enrollment in short courses, special problems, research, thesis and non-credit courses. Reductions in tuition may not be applied retroactively.

Private Scholarships
Students are encouraged to apply for scholarships from outside sources. If a student is awarded a private scholarship, the Office of Financial Aid will credit the student’s
account upon receipt of the funds. The Office of Financial Aid provides a Private Scholarship Search to help you identify potential scholarship opportunities. Upon receipt of the scholarship check, the Office of Financial Aid will credit the student’s account. Note that under no circumstances can a student’s
need be exceeded if the student is receiving need-based funds. If this scholarship causes an over-award situation in need and/or cost of attendance, the Office of Financial Aid will
contact the scholarship agency for a final decision.
