University Scholarships

A limited number of merit-based scholarships exist for which F-1 and J-1 international students may qualify. Students are automatically considered for these scholarships once they have been admitted to IIT. All of these are renewable as long as students maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Private Scholarships

Below is a list of websites that international students can use to apply for outside funding.

Student Employment

Student Employment is a program that requires students to work while earning money. International students can search for employment opportunities at www.cmc.iit.edu/students/index.asp. With proper work authorization from the International Office, students may be eligible to work off-campus. Note that students who work on-campus will receive a paycheck every two weeks based on the number of hours worked and hourly rate of pay. Funding for the IIT Student Employment Program (Non-College Work-Study) is paid entirely through unsubsidized university monies from departmental annual budgets.

Note: International students are only eligible for non-federal work-study positions.

Loans

Private Loans

Generally, private loans have higher fees and interest rates. IIT does not endorse any particular private loan provider. Be sure to read all financial terms before signing for a private loan. Private loans are awarded to students who are seeking additional funding options. These loans are credit-based and in most cases may require a co-signer. Private Loans usually have higher interest rates and should be borrowed only if necessary.

Loans Requiring U.S. Co-signer

International students are eligible to apply for private loan funding if the loan is co-signed by a creditworthy U.S. citizen or permanent resident. There may also be restrictions on the type of visa (F1 or J1). Visit the websites listed below for more specific information.
