| Financial aid is the total of grants, scholarships, Federal
Work Study, loans and other resources for which students may be eligible. The financial aid process begins when a student completes and submits the Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA) for each award year. At IIT, the Office of Financial Aid manages the financial aid process for all undergraduate students.
Financial aid funds are generally credited directly to your tuition account. However, financial aid funds cannot be credited to your account until promissory notes are signed, entrance interviews are completed, and federal verification documents are submitted, if necessary.

University Scholarships
Scholarship eligibility is highly competitive and is determined by evaluating the
academic data provided by the Undergraduate Admissions Office and financial data obtained from the FAFSA. The Office of Financial Aid administers renewals of the awards. Unless
otherwise noted, these scholarships are renewable for four years and apply only to undergraduate students who maintain full-time status. Students are not eligible for renewal of their
IIT scholarships while participating in a co-op program. All IIT scholarships require satisfactory academic progress and most have additional academic requirements. Students may check
their award letter for more specific details regarding scholarships awarded.
Private Scholarships
Students are encouraged to apply for scholarships from outside sources. If a student is awarded a private scholarship, the Office of Financial Aid will credit the student’s account
upon receipt of the funds. The Office of Financial Aid provides a Private Scholarship Search tool to help you identify potential scholarship opportunities. Upon receipt of the scholarship check, the Office of Financial Aid will credit the student’s account. Please note that under no circumstances can a student’s need
be exceeded if the student is receiving need-based funds. If this scholarship causes an over-award situation in need and/or cost of attendance, the Office of Financial Aid will contact
the scholarship agency for a final decision.
Merit Recognition Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded by the State of Illinois in observance of a student’s academic achievement. Students must rank in the top 5 percent of their graduating class in order to qualify. This scholarship is a one-time payment of $1,000.
